Today we started off class by looking at WHMIS and what it is used for. This ties in with the section on lab safety as well as the first part of the unit on classification. We watched a video which students used to make notes from. It is linked below. We then talked about lab equipment. Students used the handout they got in class yesterday to make notes from the powerpoint (found here) about different lab equipment and what it is used for. I then gave a handout on lab safety and WHMIS that students need to complete by Tuesday. On Tuesday, we will begin looking at how we can classify chemicals.
Students were also given a form that will allow them to assess their learning behaviour skills thus far in the class. Students are to answer the questions honestly and discuss their assessment with their parents. Their parents need to sign the form and it needs to come back to class on Tuesday. Students who were absent on Friday can find the form here. Please print off, fill in and have your parents sign it.
