Physical Science 20 - Oct 29

Today in class we learned some real world stoichiometry.  So far we have learned how to do stoichiometry under ideal situations.  Today we learned what a limiting reactant is.  A limiting reactant is a reactant in a chemical reaction that limits how much product you can make.  Problems that ask you to find the limiting reactant are no different than other stoichiometry problems but you usually have to do stoichiometry twice.  You are given a certain amount of each reactant, and you have to determine how much product will form.  To do that, you must to stoichiometry with each reactant and whichever yields the lower amount of product will be the limiting reactant.

The notes that we took today were on slides 16-24.  Students then had the rest of class to work on Assignment C25.  You will get more time tomorrow to work on this assignment, but you will also be writing a quiz on stoichiometry tomorrow.  This quiz is just going to cover ideal stoichiometry, or Assignment C24.
