On Friday, we started looking at the concept of the mole and what we use it in chemistry for. We also learned what molar mass is and how to calculate it. This was covered on slides 1-11 on the powerpoint called The Mole. It is found in the chemistry folder of the Physical Science 20 notes. Students then spent the rest of the class working on Assignment C17, which was on calculating molar masses for various elements and compounds.
Today we started to learn how to use the mole to convert between masses of substances and number of particles of substances. This is called molar conversions and was covered on slides 15-19 of the same powerpoint. Assignments C18 and C19 were given at the end of the class, however you will be given more time tomorrow to work on them.
