Physics 30 - Oct 6

Today we started looking at projectile motion.  The key to solving projectile motion is to break the motion up into 2 parts - one horizontal part and one vertical part.  We need to treat each part separately and solve them individually.  The nice thing about this method is it allows us to deal with two 1D problems.  The horizontal motion, because there is no acceleration, doesn't change and therefore is uniform motion.  The vertical motion is influenced by gravity and therefore we are dealing with a constant motion problem.

I did a couple of demonstrations to show this concept.  As well, I discussed a thought experiment called the hunter-monkey demonstration.  I showed a video that demonstrated the experiment.  It is linked right here.  Crazy Hunter-Monkey Demo

We started solving Example 7 but didn't quite finish it.  We will finish it tomorrow as well as examples 8 and hopefully get started on Example 9.
