Physics 30 - Feb 11
Today we finished going over example 7 in the notes. It was a rather long example where we figured out a bunch of stuff from a velocity time graph. We also did example 8. In this example, we learned how to translate a position time graph into a velocity time graph. For the rest of class we worked on Assignment 1.4. We will have more time to do this tomorrow.
Physical Science 20 - Feb 11
Today students handed in Assignment C8 and I marked them as your first assignment mark. We then learned how to balance chemical equations and I taught students a short hand method for balancing equations. We looked at a couple of examples and then students spent the rest of class working on Assignments C9 and C10. These are due tomorrow. As well, remember that you have your nomenclature quiz tomorrow.

Physics 30 - Feb 10
We started looking at accelerated motion today in class. The definition for acceleration was given and we also looked at a new type of graph called a velocity time graph. We learned another way of getting information from a graph as well. By calculating the area under a graph, we can get a whole bunch of information from a graph, most importantly the displacement of an object from a velocity time graph. Tomorrow we will look at example 7 and example 8 and hopefully get a chance to work on Assignment 1.4.
Physical Science 20 - Feb 10
Today in class I checked Assignment C6 on naming acids. Make sure to check your answers on the blog. I also assigned Assignments C7 and C8. C7 is on naming organic substances whereas C8 is a review of all the nomenclature that we have done so far. I will check C7 tomorrow and take in C8 to be marked. Have both of these done tomorrow.
We also started on chemical reactions today. It was just a review from Science 10. We finished off by looking at balancing equations and this is where we will begin tomorrow.
I have set the date for our first quiz in the course. It is on Thursday, Feb 12. It will cover all of the stuff we have done so far on naming with the exception of C7. You are going to want to pay particular attention to Assignment C8. This is the assignment that will closely reflect what the quiz will be like.

Physics 30 - Feb 9
Today we learned about the difference between velocity and speed. Velocity is a vector quantity and therefore requires a direction, speed is a scalar quantity and does not need direction. We learned how to calculate velocity from a position time graph. We also did a complicated example where we pulled a lot of information from a position time graph. This was example 5. Students had about 10 minutes left to work an Assignment 1.3. Tomorrow we will look at acceleration and accelerated motion.
Physical Science 20 - Feb 9
Today I checked Assignments C3, C4, C5. We then learned how to name acids and organic molecules. We just learned the basics for naming hydrocarbons. Student will have to have Assignment C6 completed for tomorrow. Assignment C7 on organic nomenclature will be due on Wednesday. Tomorrow we will start looking at chemical reactions and how to balance them.

Physics 30 - Feb 6
Today we got up to Assignment 1.2 by finishing an example on position time graphs. Students we handed out textbooks today as well and were given time to work on Assignments 1.1 and 1.2. We will take these up on Monday and continue on by looking at speed and velocity.
